Biography
Det. Nichole Schwedelsky is a 24-year veteran of the Calgary Police Service including 12 years serving as a detective in the Homicide Unit. Prior to working in the Homicide Unit, she spent time in the Gang Unit and Organized Crime Sections of the Calgary Police Service. Over the past four years, Det. Schwedelsky’s focus has involved historical homicide analysis and integrating the use of forensic/investigative genetic genealogy (FGG/IGG) to resolve identities of unknown suspect DNA profiles at crime scenes. Det. Schwedelsky’s team is currently applying IGG to solve unidentified human remains cases in a collaborative project with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Alberta. She is passionate about promoting IGG methodologies for law enforcement applications.
