Biography

Doug Taylor was born and raised in Winnipeg. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political studies and philosophy from the University of Manitoba in 1994. He received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 1998. Doug’s legal career began in 1998 as an articling student with the provincial Crown in Calgary.

After being admitted to the Alberta bar on October 1, 1999, he drove nine hours north to begin his first role as a Crown Prosecutor in Peace River. When he left the Provincial Prosecution Service in April 2024, Doug held the title of Senior Counsel in Calgary Prosecutions.

While serving the provincial Attorney General from 1998 to 2024, Doug handled everything from J-walking to first-degree murder. During his 10 years of practice as a prosecutor in Calgary, Doug built a strong relationship with the Calgary Police Service, working most closely with the Homicide Unit and the Priority Crimes Team in both an advisory role and assigned trial counsel.

In 2022, Doug was appointed Queen’s (now King’s) Counsel. After leaving the prosecution service, Doug joined the Calgary Police Service Legal Services team as Legal Counsel.
